Position: Marketing and Public Relations Intern
Timeframe: February 2013 through April 2014
Description: The Reno Philharmonic is seeking a Marketing and Public Relations Intern for the remainder of the 2012/2013 Season and 2013/2014 Season to provide departmental support for the promotion of the organization’s performances, activities and educational programs. This internship may satisfy requirements for earning college credit. Hours are flexible and the schedule can be adjusted to accommodate a 150-hour minimum intern commitment. The ideal applicant would be available through April 8, 2014.
Various writing assignments for press releases, programs and other communications to promote all Reno Philharmonic performances, with a focus on its “Star-Spangled Banner” project – a milestone multi-media commission with world premiere March 17 & 19, 2013 and subsequent educational and outreach programs throughout 13-14 Season.
Work with Education Director and Youth Orchestra Manager to develop story ideas and promotional content for youth and education programs.
Assist with social networking outlets, including Facebook, Flickr, YouTube and Twitter to ensure accurate and up-to-date content, potentially extending presence into other social media.
Write, edit and prepare Web site content and manage site through WordPress interface.
Request and compile bios, photos, video and other promotional materials from various guest artists and orchestra members.
Help pitch, coordinate and execute media interviews for guest artists, musicians and staff.
Produce project plans, presentations and support materials for various initiatives, committees and Board of Trustees.
Assist with community outreach efforts with area organizations and community groups to encourage attendance at Reno Philharmonic performances.
Assist with content development and in-house graphic design and layout for miscellaneous Reno Philharmonic collateral, including advertising and programs.
Front of house assistance, fielding incoming calls, answering questions and processing ticket orders; staffing events, including performances and fundraisers.
Clerical and administrative activities such as general correspondence, database management and filing; other duties as assigned.
Full-time students pursuing a Bachelors or Master’s degree in Music, Arts Administration, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations or related field.
Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint a must.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suites and social networking sites very helpful.
Applicants should be able to work in a fast paced and deadline oriented environment, have excellent written and oral communication skills and strong organizational skills.
Knowledge of classical music and sense of humor a plus.
