The Business Environmental Program at the University of Nevada Reno is seeking one or more interns to help with communications and learn environmental practices.
Job Description: Journalism/Communications and/or Environmental Intern
Responsibilities:
Working with one or more environmental professional(s), the intern(s) will learn how to market the programs of greenUP!, WSPPN (Western Sustainability and Pollution Prevention Network), and the Business Environmental Program using a variety of communications techniques. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
· Writing promotional fillers and blogs for events and webinars
· Putting together media list and contacting journalists
· Helping with outreach to Region 9 (Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada) for WSSPN
· Creating surveys and compiling results
· Assistance in compiling measurement data for source reduction and environmental outcomes
· Helping to promote launch of green business program in Reno for greenUP!
· Events include: WSPPN Conference (May 2012); greenUP! Tour de green (September 2012); P2 Week Video Contest (ongoing); greenUP! (mixers TBD); Webinars (TBD)
Experience
No prior experience necessary. Helpful to possess journalism and communications skills including public relations, media outreach, writing, blogging, filmmaking, web content and design or graphics. Background in environmental science or management is helpful and an interest in preserving the environment is a must.

Donna Walden works at the Business Environmental Program for the University of Nevada Reno and is responsible for The Western Sustainability and Pollution Prevention Network. WSPPN is a cooperative alliance of pollution prevention (P2) programs throughout EPA Region 9 (Arizona, California, Hawaii, and Nevada). The network serves as a technical resource for regional P2 issues through researching, consolidating, and disseminating P2 information.
Walden possesses 20+ years of experience in global marketing; working with large Fortune 500 companies and start-ups alike to build a market presence worldwide. Donna has done business in 15 countries and owned and managed a public relation/marketing firm in Silicon Valley for 12 years servicing 30 multi-national clients during which time she hired and trained many employees including interns.
