Nevada Appeal Internships

If interested, contact Nevada Appeal directly and Professor Warren Lerude at 775 784 4192 for credit.

The Nevada Appeal is looking for skilled interns interesting in taking their reporting skills to the next level in a collegial and forward-thinking newsroom.
What we want: Intellectual curiosity is the best trait a journalist can possess, and we seek candidates who are brimming with it. Good writing is a must, as is a desire to improve and receive feedback. Availability to work Saturdays is important, and a good sense of humor is a bonus.
What we offer: The Appeal is Nevada’s capital newspaper, and interns here get an up-close look at how state government functions. They also get experience with local, business, prep-sports, education, human-interest and crime news – the bread-and-butter topics that all good newspapers strive to cover well. Our interns work with two experienced editors, both of whom take a keen interest in staff development. They also get the benefit of working in a newsroom with more than 150 combined years of experience, as well as training in the use of emerging technologies. We don’t offer financial compensation, but the editor treats interns to lunch once a week.
Whom to contact: If you’re interested, send a cover letter and resume, along with samples of your work, to Brian Sandford at bsandford@nevadaappeal.com or 580 Mallory Way, Carson City, NV 89701.
