Local race car driver, Tim Pangborn, rolled his race buggy this weekend while attending a race in Primm Nevada.
“Everything was going fine, I was about to pass the guy in front of me and my tire hit a rut,” says Pangborn.
He rolled and flipped his car violently 4 times. He luckly only walked away with a sore elbow and a couple of scratches and bruises.
“It was pretty scary,” says Pangborn. “Everything happened so fast, and it seemed like i was rolling forever.”
His brother James Pangborn, was right behind him. “I saw the whole thing, from where I was at I couldn’t see what coused him to roll.” “At least i placed before hime this time, Tim has been doing this alot longer then me so im still learning the ropes.” He explains that him and his brother have been in to off-roading for a long time so they have seen and been in many wrecks.
“I broke my collar bone once when i was 22 when i wrecked on my dirt bike,” says Pangborn. “I also broke my shoulder when a quad fell on me, I’m happy to walk away with a swollen elbow.”
Pangborns long time girlfriend and fiance, Cheryl Burger, enjoys watching her fiance in every race but says she is always worried about his safety. “I freaked out! I ran to the pit area and when I finally got to where he was he drove away,” says Burger. “I was just happy to know he was still alive.” She explains that it was one of the worst wrecks she has seen him get in since he started raceing 2 years ago.
Pangborns car may have gotten a worse beating then he got. “It looks like we might have to rebuild the whole thing, I won’t know for sure until I look at it closer but its not looking too good,” says Pangborn. he hopes to have it back up and running by his next race. “It’s going to take alot of work,” says Pangborn.
Though Pangborn was upset for his loss and accident he was overjoyed that his brother placed 6th in their class. It’s not about how many wins you get in each particular race, its based on a points system. Pangborn is still ranked 6th overall in his class of 35.
When Pangborn wrecked his brother managed to get around the mess of cars piled up behind him. He finished 5th overall in the race which bumped him up to 12th overall in his class.
“I just like to do this for fun,” says Pangborn. “I’m thankful for being able to afford and do what I love.” He says if he ever does win he plans on donating his winnings to charity.
